Review:
`Originality, by definition, one-time thing. In 1997, the original `Men in Black hit a nerve with movie audiences, showing that even with a big budget blockbuster, heavily loaded down with state-of-the-art, computer-generated special effects, it can still run to appear light on their feet. The producers of the film pulled off this feat gravitational legerdemain by coming up with a concept and script overflowing with creativity, wit, imagination and stamp `hipness to go along with his playfulness.Well anarchic tone, five years have passed and now` Men in Black II to confirm what many of us suspected all along: that works, which are based on the uniqueness of their main selling point is rarely ever able to duplicate their success the second time ü , mber. Five years is the life of pop culture, and what seemed like a cool summer `` seem decidedly old hat next. Without a feeling of newness excellence, which is defined in the original `Men in Black II appears only loud, over-the-top Smith blockbuster. Will one summer and Tommy Lee Jones are back to play Jay Kay and Agents secret government organization whose mission is to monitor the activity of thousands of foreigners who have been secretly infiltrated Earth society and help protect the planet a potential threat to interstellar space. Smith and Jones, however, to be quite comfortable in their roles and those of Lara Flynn Boyle contributed to Serleena, baddest alien this side of Darth Vader, and Rip Torn, delightful as Zed, head slightly broken in Men Black agency.Although special effects in this film is, as one would expect in this day and age, surprising and almost continuously, the same certainly can not be said that the film script. The story progresses at a fairly fast clip, but rarely makes us laugh. In fact, the script comes across as undisciplined mess, lacking both logic and coherence. Unlike the previous film, we get the sense that everything here was literally serving special effects. There are an awful lot of running and bouncing around but rarely any point or purpose. Indeed, we think somehow end up more tired and drained than exhilarated and euphoric. It seems that director Barry Sonnenfeld thought that if he could just keep MOVING thing we wouldnt know that he has nothing new to offer this restored. It does not work. In fact, if the `Men in Black II shows us anything, it's that just because MOVES something does not mean it did not support us at the same time.
